Meet on thursday Night - 5 - 7 pm
HISTORY
A group of ladies felt compelled to meet the needs of children in crisis around the world. The ladies heard about children without clothing, or following a natural disaster, and decided to put their sewing skills to work helping others in need. In 2007 an old storage room was converted into a sewing room. The room had no walls, ceiling, flooring or electricity. A lot of work, prayer and donations (sewing machines, fabric, notions, etc.) the "Dorcas Mission" became a sewing utopia. The Dorcas Mission sewing ministry opened on July 20, 2008. After production, the clothing is given to missionaries going on mission trips around the globe.
PURPOSE
The Mission provides hospital gowns, bibs, Alzheimer's aprons, lap quilts, walker covers, and bumper pads to the hospice groups in 5 counties. Jumpers, crochet blankets, lap quilts and puppets are made for the children. A new mission that has developed through the sewing room is teaching the Girls In Action in the church how to sew jumpers and hand puppets. The girls are so excited to be sewing clothes for other children around the globe. They welcome GA groups (any age) for an outing.

In 2010, after some contact with John Gunter about clothing needs in the Dominican Republic, a group of six ladies met in a member’s home. They made about 85 garments for distribution in the DR by John, but because some members moved away and illness in the group, they disbanded for a while.
In early 2013, HHIM invited the group to a brunch encouraging sewing groups, and by August they were able to secure a work room and equipment where they meet weekly on Wednesday. Four of the original 2010 group were joined by four others. They have sent several shipments to DR, Honduras and Haiti. Other projects have included Christmas shoeboxes (60 in 2014, 100 in 2015, 100 in the works this year), assisted several of their church groups in projects, pillowcases for veterans, blankets, totes and other items for Alabama Baptist Children’s Home in Dothan, layettes for a ministry in SE Asia, and a current project of layettes for Sav-a-Life.
They have been generously supported by many in their church and others who have shared materials, equipment, and finances which have enabled them to do their projects.
Sowing by Sewing is a Henry County based ministry. It operates from the Haleburg Baptist Church in Haleburg, Alabama. The ladies of this ministry have long been supporters of HHIM.
The ladies make a number of items for use in the international mission field. Among the items that are made in their sewing room are baby blankets, baby caps, children's clothing such as shorts, and dresses. The ladies collect items such as tee shirts, shorts, and ball caps as well.
HHIM has shared items provided by Sowing by Sewing with the needy in Honduras, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti.

The East Side Ladies have been a supporter of HHIM's Opiege Ministries since March of 2018.
This year the ladies donated several boxes of clothing and other items. Along with the congregation of East Side Baptist they collected boxes of over the counter meds for use in Opiege.
The ladies also supply items to a number of other dometic and international ministry causes, HHIM is blessed to have their support.
